FIVE EVENTS WITH M-SPORT’S FIESTA R5
Pedro Heller and Pablo Olmos will contest five rounds of the FIA World
Rally Championship’s principal support series this year. Piloting an
Ecoboost-powered Ford Fiesta R5 prepared by M-Sport, the Chileans will
tackle the WRC 2 category in Mexico, Argentina, Portugal, Poland and
Wales.
Starting his career in his home nation of Chile in 2015, Heller has
quickly progressed through grass roots competition and is now ready to
take the next step with a debut on the world stage.
Piloting R2 machinery in 2015, the 28-year-old was the class victor on
six of the eight events he contested and graduated to the R3 class the
following year with a second place finish overall at the Gran Premio
Osorno Rally.
Keen to learn the art of four-wheel-drive rallying, Heller has called
upon the expertise of Malcolm Wilson’s M-Sport operation and completed a
comprehensive two-day test with the Fiesta and Tok Sport in Sweden last
month – complete with instruction from Tapio Laukkanen.
The WRC debutant’s first two events will take place in familiar
surroundings with two South American fixtures in Mexico and Argentina
before travelling further afield to pit his skills against some of the
series’ most competitive fields in Europe.
Having completed the Shakedown for Rally Mexico today, Heller and Olmos
are ready to tackle the opening round of an exciting new chapter in
their career.
Pedro Heller said:
“This weekend will be a dream come true. Just two years ago I drove a
rally car for the very first time and now we’re jumping into a world
class event. I’m very happy about this, and very motivated to get
started.
“When we first started looking into the possibilities seven months
ago, M-Sport were very open to helping us and I’m really pleased to be
working alongside them as we take on this next challenge.
“Our plan will be to contest five events in Mexico, Argentina,
Portugal, Poland and Wales. This year, we want to learn and get
experience. It’s a long-term project and we first want to focus on
learning and developing at this level.”
